Tips to Manage Snow Load on your Solar Panels in Winter

Follow these simple tips to help your solar panels perform better during winter:

  • Normally it is not necessary to remove the snow from sloped solar panels. But if you wish to do so, use a plastic rake to move the snow.
  • Snow sheds automatically from the sloped solar panels on roofs. Make sure you install snow guards to prevent avalanching of snow on pedestrians / people on the ground.
  • Prevent ice dams by manually removing ice from locations where it has fallen and piled up. When removing ice dams, take precautions so that ice from above does not fall on you.
  • Do not use chemicals such as Windex on the solar panels.
